Lopön Tenzin Norbu

Lopön (Acharya) Tenzin Norbu is a Buddhist monk at Thrangu Monastery. He was born on December 4, 1987, in Tsum Valley, Nepal, as the second son of Lhakpa Lama and Tsewang Lama.

In 1997, under the guidance of Dungse Pema Rinpoche, he was ordained as a monk by His Eminence the 9th Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche. Following his ordination, he received basic Buddhist teachings and enrolled at Shree Mangal Dvip High School.

After completing his school education, he studied ritual and Buddhist art for one year. In 2007, he received full Bhikshu ordination from H.E. the 9th Thrangu Rinpoche. The following year, he entered a one-year meditation retreat at Namo Buddha, where he practiced foundational Buddhist meditation techniques.

In 2009, he joined the Vajra Vidya Institute of Higher Buddhist Studies in Varanasi, India, graduating as an Acharya in 2015.

In 2016, he was appointed as a teacher at Shree Mangal Dvip School, where he taught with distinction for two years. Recognizing his exceptional management skills and dedication, Thrangu Rinpoche appointed him Vice Principal of the school in 2018, a position he held until 2022.

Since 2018, under the guidance of Dungse Pema Rinpoche, he has made annual visits to Tsum Valley, organizing Thrangu Rinpoche’s visits and leading the annual Tsechu puja. During each visit, he has also given Buddhist teachings to the locals at Tsum Monastery.

Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s degree at Lumbini Buddhist University while serving as Treasurer of the Tsum Monastery Development Organization and as the in-charge of the Tsum Library.

Venerable Tenzin Norbu is recognized for his expertise in both traditional Buddhist and modern education. He is widely respected for his wisdom, skill, and dedication to the Dharma.
